Yesterday, October 26, Chevrolet officially unveiled a new version of its Corvette sports car with the Z06 prefix, which is the most powerful and fastest modification of the model in the history of the brand. The main feature of this version is under the hood – the manufacturer made a non-standard decision to install in the serial coupe an engine from the C8.R race car, which takes part in the American circuit endurance races. In addition, it is worth noting that this engine is the most powerful representative of eight-cylinder engines among all that were installed on serial cars.
This is a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that delivers 679 horsepower at 623 Nm of torque – there is not a single V8 on the market that can compete with this monster. The manufacturer said that the engine is capable of operating at 8,300 rpm, and the sports car will be delivered on sale with an uncontested 8-speed dual-clutch robotic gearbox. As a result, the car is able to accelerate from zero to one hundred in 2.6 seconds, which is a very good indicator for an ICE model (only electric cars go faster), but Chevrolet does not name the maximum speed – apparently, it is not yet defined.
But the external differences between the new Corvette Z06 and the base Corvette Stingray are quite few – the manufacturer has created a stylish bumper, enlarged fenders and wider air intakes, plus more attractive wheels are included. Also, the faster version of the sports car has got an improved suspension and advanced Brembo brakes on the front wheels.
At the moment, the cost of the sports car Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has not been disclosed, but the brand has promised to start sales in the United States in the summer of 2022. Unfortunately, the car will not be officially delivered to Russia.
