The new DeLorean will also be the star of the movie. It will compete with Porsche Taycan and AMG GT

After the first information about the new DeLorean appeared on the Internet, DMC CEO Joost de Vries revealed some new interesting facts during a recent interview on the Electrify News podcast.

This is a fully electric car. The new DeLorean EV concept will actually have gullwing doors, but it won’t have the stainless steel body of the original DMC-12. The new DeLorean wasn’t built for the hypothetical new Back to the Future movie, but it’s sure to appear in at least one movie, and could also feature in other movies in the future.

There are plenty of concept images on the internet, but according to the DMC CEO, none of these images are accurate. With the new design, the DeLorean EV stays true to the original in the sense that the front will resemble the rear while the car remains symmetrical.

The company debated whether to make the DeLorean EV a hypercar, but ultimately decided not to. The car will not accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 1.9 seconds, but it will be very competitive.

Unlike many other automakers, DeLorean plans to put driving assists in second place by bringing the human element back to the electric car: “It’s not going to be an iPad on wheels.” De Vries said the DeLorean will compete against the Porsche Taycan and AMG GT.

It was also announced that DeLorean is not just making one electric sports car, but an entire brand of electric vehicles: “We need a sports car to restart the brand, but the brand’s goal is to become a full lineup manufacturer. We can’t survive on a coupe. I don’t care how cool it is, but the volume doesn’t justify the investment or the long-term perspective of what the investment requires. You will see other products from us. I won’t say if it’s going to be an SUV, a sedan or whatever, but there will be more products.”
