The new domestic system will allow Russia to conduct continuous detailed photo and video recording of events on Earth in ultra-high resolution

Scientists from the Russian Space Systems holding, which is part of Roscosmos, have completed the creation of a new generation of orbital scanning devices for a future constellation of small Earth remote sensing satellites. This was reported by the press service of Roscosmos.

According to Roskosmos, the technology is based on the use of a unique material as part of satellite observation equipment – silicon carbide, produced by engineers of the Shvabe holding of the Rostec state corporation.

It is also emphasized that the new domestic system will allow Russia to conduct continuous detailed photo and video recording of events on Earth in ultra-high resolution. A camera lens with high-quality optical components allows you to create beautiful detailed images in various, sometimes difficult, shooting conditions. Roskosmos plans to create space telephoto lenses for shooting the Earth with ultra-high spatial resolution: less than 1 meter.

Silicon carbide produced by the Lytkarino plant of optical glass of the Shvabe holding is used to make the body and elements of the optical circuit of the device – a multi-zone scanning device. Previously, steel, aluminum or titanium were used for these purposes. The use of a new material makes the device insensitive to temperature changes in space, significantly lightens its weight and eliminates even temporary deformation of the outer shell of the device under the influence of an aggressive environment.

Yury Gektin, chief designer of the Roscosmos direction, said:

The use of the latest technologies in scanning equipment for the first time in Russia will allow not only to “photograph”, but also to conduct video surveillance of events and processes on the earth’s surface. For example, when one of the small satellites moves over a specific region, it turns on the video recording at the moment of passing the required area. When a convenient point of view begins to “close”, at this time another spacecraft already enters the observation zone and “intercepts” the task. Thus, we will be able to monitor local incidents, the progress of construction of facilities, natural phenomena, industrial and agricultural activities and many other processes online. And everything will be seen in detail.
