The new iMac is not concerned with the chip shortage. Apple will soon overtake HP to become a leading manufacturer of all-in-one PCs

According to industry sources cited by DigiTimes, Apple’s new line of 24-inch iMacs could help it overtake HP to become the leading manufacturer of all-in-one computers.

The forecast is based on data showing that more affordable all-in-one brands are suffering far more from global chip shortages as suppliers prioritize supply of premium all-in-one products in the all-in-one market.

Sources indicated that the new iMacs are only slightly affected by the lack of components, but entry-level and mid-range products between $ 500 and $ 1,000 have been hit harder. Several ODMs have already suspended production of many all-in-ones due to a lack of components, sources said, but iMac production remains unchanged.

Apple sells three new iMacs for $ 1299, $ 1499, and $ 1699. All come in multiple color options, are based on the Apple M1 SoC, SSDs, 8GB of RAM and dual Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. Pre-ordered iMacs will go on sale May 21st.

According to Digitimes Research, HP was the largest all-in-one brand in Q4 2020 with 925,000 units shipped, followed by Apple with 860,000 units and Lenovo with 731,000 units. In the first quarter, Apple should have surpassed HP and maintained its lead this year.
