The new Mac mini with the Apple M2 chip is the most powerful ever. Costs $100 less

A little over two years later, Apple has updated its smallest computer in the Mac line, the Mac mini. The new model of early 2023 moves from Apple’s first M1 processor to the latest M2 and even M2 Pro with phenomenal performance. In the latter case, Mac mini reaches a truly professional level for the first time, allowing you to quickly complete a wide range of workflows previously unimaginable for such a small form factor.

Mac mini now comes with the M2 chip as standard, with eight processing cores (four high-performance and four power-efficient) and a 10-core graphics system. With up to 24GB of unified memory and 100GB/s bandwidth, tasks like editing images in Adobe Photoshop are now up to 50% faster. With a more modern video processing media engine, the PC also edits ProRes video in Final Cut Pro in half the time. Simultaneous playback of up to two 8K ProRes streams or up to 12 4K ProRes streams at 30 frames per second is supported.

The older Mac mini based on the M2 Pro offers 12 cores, a 19-core graphics accelerator and twice the bandwidth, that is, already at the level of 200 GB / s. The maximum unified memory configuration is 32 GB. The chip’s capabilities allow for simultaneous playback of up to five 8K ProRes streams or up to 23 4K ProRes streams at 30 frames per second. Built-in Neural Engine handles AI operations 40% faster.

Mac mini with M2 has two Thunderbolt 4 ports and supports up to two monitors. The M2 Pro version has four Thunderbolt 4 ports and is additionally capable of handling a single 8K monitor, which was previously not available on a Mac at all. Both computers have two USB-A connectors and one HDMI, Gigabig Ethernet and an updated 3.5mm audio jack with support for high-impact headphones are also provided. Of the outbred interfaces, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are announced.

The new Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro is available to order starting today, January 17, on the official Apple website and the Apple Store app in 27 countries. Delivery of the first online orders will begin on January 24. Sales in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau and New Zealand will start on February 3rd. Mac mini with the M2 starts at $599 (the M1 model was $699). Mac mini with M2 Pro will sell for $1,299.
