Luca Cianciolo, make-up artist, together with Clinique she curated the beauty look of some celebrities during the Cannes Film Festival. «A wonderful experience because I didn’t have to conform to an already defined style, but I was able to express my creative side by building from scratch the image I wanted to give life to».
For Clinique Luca has made up Ann-Sophie Thieme, Gabrielle Caunesil, Toni Garrn, Larsen Thompson and Giulia Salemi. For them he created different looks, but united by a common thread: theeyeliner, that after the futuristic make-up created for Francesca Michielin in Sanremo, has become her easily recognizable stylistic signature.
With Luca we talked about the trends seen in Cannes and those we will bring this summer. How to use brown (black is a bit overrated!) What is the technique you use to make the eye sculpted but not necessarily hyper made up?
«In Cannes I applied black or brown inter-eyeliner eyeliner depending on the make-up. A detail that is not immediately visible because it is hidden by the lashes, but that sculpts the eye: the gaze is intense without appearing heavy ».
And what is the best eyeliner in this case?
«The one with a pen because its formula has the ability to make makeup long lasting, much more than a pencil that is fat based».
When do you recommend using the pencil?
“For example, I used it to create Larsen Thompson’s look: first I blended the pencil and then to define and fill the shape of the cat eye I used eyeliner, which also fixes the pencil and makes the make long lasting. -up “.
In Larsen Thompson’s makeup there is another detail that is also seen a lot on social media, the over lips, what is your secret to making them?
«First I give the shape with the pencil, widening the natural contour of the lips by a few millimeters, then I ask the person to rub the mucous membranes as is done with cocoa butter and then fix with some face powder. For the summer I recommend using light burgundy for a “I just ate a strawberry” effect ».
This summer green light for the colors on the eyes?
“I’m for a Hailey Bieber make-up, sophisticated, but not pop-like with bright colors. Yes to waterproof mascara, brown eyeliner and a good base ».
Brown uses it almost more than black …
“I use it a lot to blend both eyes and lips. I find it more stratifiable and modular. Brown can be easily lightened, while black is more difficult because when it fades it tends to gray ».
The base that resists the summer heat?
“In this period the foundation is not essential, you can apply a good BB Cream that evens the complexion and protects the skin, or if there are no particular discolorations, just the concealer with a camouflage effect is enough”.
Last but not least: the eyebrows?
«The eyebrows must be very natural, we can cover just a few holes and apply the fixing gel, but without building particular shapes. The eyebrows must not be more beautiful than the painting itself, or the face, when they are so perfect that they attract too much attention, it means that there is something out of place, they must not excel over the harmony of the face “.
