The new ‘net’ minimum wage depending on previous service

By Dimitris Katsaganis

In force is from May 1 is the new increase in the minimum wage by 7.5%, according to the government decision.

The new minimum wage amounts to 713 euros, compared to 663 euros that was until April 31, 2022.

However, this amount is “gross”. That is, it includes the contributions of the insured. These correspond to 14.2%. Subtracting this percentage, the “net” minimum wage amounts to 611 euros from May 1 compared to 569 euros that was until April 31, 2022.

This salary (713 euros gross and 611 net) corresponds to any employee who had not secured any previous service allowance in February 2012. That is, he had not closed at least 3 years of employment in the above month of 2012, thus ensuring a 10% increase in the initial minimum salary.

Anyone who had secured 3 years in 2012, receives a 10% increased minimum wage. Anyone who had secured 3.1 to 6 years, in 2012, receives a 20% increase (compared to the initial, no previous minimum wage) salary.

Any employee who had secured 6.1 to 9 years of service in 2012, receives a 20% increase (compared to the initial, no previous service minimum salary) salary. Finally, anyone who had more than 9 years of service in 2012, receives a surcharge of 30% on the original, without previous service minimum wage.

Thus, the minimum wage depending on the previous service is increased from May 1, 2022 depending on the previous service established in 2012 as follows:

-For 0 to 3 years, the net salary will rise to 611 euros against 569 euros. There is therefore an increase of 42 euros on a monthly basis and 588 euros on an annual basis.

-For 3.1 to 6 years, the net salary will rise to 672 euros against 626 euros (increase of 46 euros / month and 644 euros per year)

-For 6.1 to 9 years, the net salary will rise to 733 euros against 682 euros (increase of 51 euros / month and 714 euros per year)

-For more than 9 years of service, the net salary will amount to 794 euros against 738 euros (increase of 56 euros / month and 784 euros per year).

The increase as it appears on an annual basis shows that the profit for the employees is equivalent to another, “15th” salary.
