It is perfectly normal to lose a certain amount of hair when the season changes. Given that there are no valid reference numbers for everyone, the normal replacement foresees that they can fall from 50 to 100, while in the event of a more important loss we speak of outflow. The causes at the origin of this phenomenon can be different: hormonal imbalances, physical or mental stress, a psychological situation of fragility, health problems, the use of certain drugs (such as antibiotics), surgery and an unregulated diet. To counter this phenomenon, the use of cosmetic treatments and anti-fall supplements is almost automatic. When they do not give results, help comes from regenerative medicine with the therapy of PRP, which stands for platelet rich plasma. «It is a powerful concentrate of growth factors capable of stimulating tissue regeneration and, consequently, of giving a boost capable of reactivating the vitality of the hair bulb. It is a side-effect-free procedure that offers excellent results. It also has the advantage of being practiced in a few minutes ”, explains Carmela Pisano, specialist in aesthetic medicine, owner of the Acaia Medical Center in Rome and Milan.

The technique
The PRP technique involves the centrifugation of a small dose of autologous blood which produces plasma with a high concentration of platelets. “The current legislation currently prohibits such maneuvers in an outpatient non-hospital setting under the control of a blood bank, so today synthetic injectors, biomimetic PRP, made in the laboratory and which replace the effect of plasma are used. These are molecules that exert the same effect as human ones because they are able to stimulate and activate autologous stem cells ”, explains Carmela Pisano. The evolution of the classic method in trichology is called New PRP with biomimetic platelet growth factors.
How the session takes place
The protocol calls for blood tests and an evaluation of the skin and scalp bulbs. “An infiltration is carried out every 30 days for 5-6 months, during which it is also recommended to take supplements based, for example, on biotin, a water-soluble vitamin that improves the keratinized structure of the hair, counteracting the fall caused from an altered function of the hair follicle. For appreciable results, cycles of 8 annual meetings are recommended, the cost of which varies according to the areas to be treated and ranges from 250 euros to 600 euros, with lasting and stable results ”, explains the expert.

Cosmetic treatments to be associated
Shampoos, vials and supplements that counteract the fall are intended to improve and stimulate the activity of the bulb and for this reason they often act on the microcirculation which, when it works correctly, in fact, improves the supply of nutrients and agents that stimulate cellular metabolism, promoting growth. Often they also contain agents which on the one hand inhibit 5 alpha reductase, the enzyme involved in the metabolism of testosterone and responsible for the miniaturization of the follicle, and on the other hand stimulate the anagen phase of normal stem development. To support the life cycle, stimulating formulas are also effective, combining arginine and thermal waters with exclusive vitamin cocktails, or with peptides and anti-glycation agents that awaken the vascularization and awaken the tissues. “These treatments must never be abandoned and must be constantly implemented even between a session of New PRP and the next”, concludes Carmela Pisano.
