The new system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs recognizes people and cars by silhouettes. She already works in 5 regions

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has begun to use a new system for recognizing people by faces and silhouettes, as well as cars. Andrey Telenkov, CEO of Ntechlab, told TASS agency about it. At the moment, the system operates in five Russian regions, in which it is not specified.

The developer of the new system was Ntechlab, which is a partner of Rostec. Previously, it has already created a face recognition system, but now it has added the function of detecting people and cars by silhouette. Ntechlab presented its development at the conference “Digital Industry of Industrial Russia” (CIPR), from which it became known that the Ministry of Internal Affairs had already used the platform in five regions of Russia. In addition, this technology is used in the public transport system, at construction sites and in other projects in the CIS countries and Latin America. The Middle East is also showing interest in it.

Andrey Telenkov noted that the system’s algorithms can track a person’s trajectory, count the number of people, and search for them by silhouettes with very high accuracy. They take into account data such as gait, height, and so on, and are also capable of searching by attributes such as glasses, hat, or beard. It works the same way with cars. The system is able to highlight the brand, body color and other individual characteristics of the cars.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs will use the technology to analyze the video stream from cameras in the regions and to control transport. The system will also find application in the commercial sphere: in construction, trade and at various facilities.
