The new Windows 11 Photos app is now available for download

Some Windows 11 users have already started receiving an update for the Photos app. They report this on Reddit. Last week Panos Panay, Windows Product Director at Microsoft, talked about a new Photos app that should appear in the insider version of Windows 11. The updated version includes several new features, a design in the style of the latest version of the operating system, and changes in the program interface.

In general, the application is very similar in functionality to the version that is available in Windows 10. When launched, users immediately see the most recent images and a few shortcuts to selected collections. The menu on the top panel contains the same sections as before, but the overall design of the program has been slightly changed.

The most significant changes are visible when you open the image. In view mode, a carousel is displayed at the bottom, which can be used to select multiple images at once. This allows you to simultaneously open them in separate windows, add to favorites or delete. When viewing a single image, a floating toolbar appears at the top for various actions: editing, drawing, deleting, or displaying detailed information. Some options that were previously scattered in different places are now in the menu behind three dots.

Another important feature is that the capabilities of the program can be extended using extensions. It is not yet clear what this will look like and what these extensions will be, but it sounds promising.

The new Photos application is being rolled out gradually and is not yet available to everyone, but you can already download it on this page.
