The new Windows 11 was inferior in performance to Windows 10 in the first tests

HotHardware conducted a comparative study of computers running the leaked version of the Windows 11 operating system and the current version of Windows 10.

For testing, we used Dell XPS 13 9300 laptops with an Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor and Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7 based on AMD Ryzen 7 4800U. The installation process for Windows 11 is much the same as for Windows 10. On first launch, browsers notice a new welcome sound and a redesigned taskbar with icons centered.

On Geekbench, the operating systems Windows 11 and Windows 10 showed comparable results, which differ within the margin of error. But in PCMark 10 the difference is already visible, and it is clearly not in favor of Windows 11. The gap turned out, though not the largest, but quite noticeable. Windows 10 clearly took the lead in the Essentials benchmark. But in the Digital Content Creation test, the alignment of forces has changed – here already Windows 11 took over, but only on an AMD-based system.

In the Speedometer 2.0 browser test, Windows 11 scores better than Windows 10. However, reviewers point out that the difference may be due to the use of different builds of the Chrome browser.

In Cinebench R23, the single-threaded test results did not differ much between OS versions, but when processing multiple data streams, Windows 11 saw a performance decrease of about 10% compared to its Windows 10.

In 3DMark Night Raid, an AMD Ryzen-based computer ran the same on both operating systems, while an Intel-based laptop ran 4% slower under Windows 11.

It is important to understand that this is an early build and Microsoft is still optimizing the operating system. Windows 11 will be unveiled on June 24th.
