When I was invited to join the team of columnists at CNN Travel & Gastronomy I went into a deep process of procrastination. Not because I didn’t have ideas about what to write, on the contrary: it was for many.
Choices are options. Decisions that lead us to follow different paths that present themselves in front of us. And when we are going to travel it is no different: the excitement is great, we want to choose every detail of the trip, where we will stay, which restaurants we will visit, or which tours and tourist attractions we will visit… Decisions are as varied as the options available.
It turns out that these decisions do not walk alone. In fact, every trip is part of a larger journey filled with moments, the result of decisions and choices that led us to that destination.
In other words, it’s saying that the trip we make is the sum of all our choices, not just for that trip, but for a lifetime.
The job we chose, that day when we decided to stay late and it led to a promotion, having or not having children (or wanting to have them), the luxury car we stopped buying, that investment opportunity (good or bad) that we miss, the sedentary lifestyle or lack thereof, curiosity, the habit of reading…
Whatever it is, it all contributed to the fact that, in that small excerpt of the human experience, we chose a destination, at that time, in that hotel, with those companies, with or without extreme sports (or “buggy with emotion”, as in the dunes). of the Brazilian Northeast).
Fact is that a trip is not just a small space of time that we set aside to rest, meet, date, eat and the like. It is otherwise, at the time, the epitome of our choices and thus, a reflection of who we are and who we want to be.
In this space, I hope to be able to help you (and me too) in the arduous choice that the hyperconnected and profoundly transforming world presents us with: which destination to choose for my next trip?
We will talk a lot about the future of the sector, the travel of the future and the future of travel, which are the main fairs, congresses, micro-meetings and megafestivals that are (in my view) unmissable and that should be on everyone’s agenda. And also how to enjoy all these moments without the hassles involved, in addition to living the experiences available to the fullest, with comfort and, if possible, at the lowest possible cost.
Traveling is delightful anyway, and even more special, however, when we understand how it fits into the puzzles that are our lives. With the opening text of this column, I ask you, what’s the next piece you’re going to fit?
