The Federal Court of Nigeria transferred the consideration of the tax evasion case against the Binance cryptocurrency exchange for April 30 for procedural reasons.

Binance Lawyer Chukwuka Ikwuazom said that the court took into account the arguments of the defense and annulled the decision on the delivery of court documents in the case of possible tax violations in electronic form.

He emphasized that the court decision of February 11, 2025 on the electronic notification of the exchange violated the procedural norms, since Binance has no office in Nigeria and was registered in the Cayman Islands.

“The presentation of claims on tax claims outside the jurisdiction in electronic form without a separate permission of the court is illegal,” Ikvuaz said.

The Nigeria court decided to temporarily suspend the trial in order to clarify the procedural issues, as well as give the local tax service time to interact with Binance and a response to the company’s claims.

Recall that Nigeria accuses the crypto -country of inflicting economic damage in the amount of about $ 79.5 billion and requires $ 2 billion to pay off unpaid taxes.

Earlier, the head of the financial crimes in Binance, Tigran Gambaryan, shared with participants in DC Blockchain Summit 2025 the details of his detention and liberation from custody in Nigeria.
