The night burns: the exclusive clip

A torn existence, the desire to leave a mark at all costs and a sense of debauchery that makes its way into hearts that are still too tender, unprepared to accept the difficulties of life. Massimo and his friends in their early twenties Antonio and Hamza spend their days stuffing themselves with narcotic substancesi, to remain on the fringes of a fast-moving world without them being able to do anything to prevent it. When night falls, they roam like prey animals in the clubs of Lazio to rob people armed with pepper spray, driven by the thirst for adrenaline and by easy income, but also by the urgency to be there, to count something in spite of the irrelevance they think they have been destined for.

The night burns, Angelica Gallo’s short film premiered at Turin Film Festival, talks about this: about three guys who try to understand their place, forced to move in an Italy that does not seem to offer them any kind of perspective except that of teaming up to bow to the only god who seems to be able to enrich them really something: money. To interpret them are three young actors: Eugenio Deidda, ex inmate of the Rome prison and writer on his first experience in cinema; Lorenzo Di Iulio, already appeared in the film The Ruthless by Renato De Maria; And Valerio Bracale. Together with them, however, we also find the director Abel Ferrara, here in the role of the gang’s trustworthy buyer; Marcello Fonte, the protagonist of Dogman that we see in the role of Sapone, who accompanies the boys with the car during the robberies; And Aniello Arena, already seen in Reality by Matteo Garrone, in those of Lucio, their pusher.

Produced by Angelica Gallo and the head of Archimede Film Guendalina Folador, The night burns, distributed by Save the Cut and Son of a Pitch, is the frosted portrait of a province that does not seem to offer either a culture of work or a constructive future to its young inhabitants. In addition to money, only the big brands and the easy success handed down by influencers on Instagram seem to count. Failure and human misery, the desire to change things and anhedonia: these are the conflicting feelings that animate the protagonists of The night burns, a journey not so much of redemption as of reflection on those who struggle to understand how to move their pawn in order not to lose a game that seems to have its own rules.
