THE a young woman from Mali and her nine babies, who are now one month old, are fine but will remain under medical supervision for another two months or so, as became known today by her clinic Casablanca who undertook this difficult pregnancy and childbirth.
Halima Cisse, 25, from Tobuktu, gave birth to five girls and four boys in early May. She was transferred in late March from Bamako to Casablanca to receive better care and follow-up due to the increased risk she faced due to this very rare, multiple pregnancy.
The nine-year-olds no longer need respiratory support, they are fed with a catheter and their weight has increased significantly: they weigh from 800 grams to 1.4 kilos, Abdelkondous Huffie, spokesman for the private clinic Ain Borja, told AFP.

The young mother could have already been discharged from the clinic, but she chose to stay close to her children “for emotional reasons”, Huffsey said.
However, doctors are not yet discussing the return of the large family to Mali. “It will take a month and a half for the babies to get to the point of facing life,” the spokesman explained.
On May 4, a team of 10 doctors and 25 nurses mobilized to deliver the nine babies by caesarean section.
It should be noted that this multiple pregnancy has not yet been recorded as a world record. The medically certified record dates back to 2009 and belongs to a 33-year-old American woman who gave birth to eight babies.
