The number of dead in the North Macedon

The number of dead rose to 59 in a fire grid that destroyed a nightclub in the northern Macedonia, the small country of Balkans, neighboring Greece. Another 155 were injured.

The numbers were updated by the country’s interior minister, Panche Toshkovski. At a news conference on Sunday (16), the politician said that the use of pyrotechnic material was responsible for the tragedy.

“The fire was caused by pyrotechnics used for lighting on the show,” he said. “Probably sparks reached a part of the ceiling that was made of flammable material, causing the fire to spread to the whole disco in a short period of time, creating a thick smoke,” he said.

At the time of the fire, hundreds of people were in the “Pulse” nightclub in the city of Kocani, about 100 kilometers from the Capital Scopia, to watch the presentation of a band known as “DNK”. The artists are among the dead.

The ages of the victims range from 16 to 24 years and most of the dead were trampled by the crowd, according to the head of Kochani General Hospital, Dr. Kristina Serafimova.

A video made during the show shows a band performing, while pyrotechnic devices firing sparks in front of the stage.

A 22 -year -old showcator Marija Taseva told Kanal 5 television channel that, when trying to escape the fire, she fell to the floor and people trampled her.

“Everyone was trying to save themselves,” Taseva said, adding that she lost contact with her sister in chaos. “We couldn’t find her in any hospital,” she said.

In hospital in Italy, Pope Francis also expressed his “deep” condolences to the victims’ families and said that those who have lost their lives will be remembered in prayer.

Tragedy in Nights

The Northern Macedonia fire is one of the deadliest in nightclubs in the last decade. In 2015, a nightclub crowded in Bucharest, Romania, was taken by the flames after the use of pyrotechnics during a show. At the time, 64 people died.

Two years earlier, more than 240 people died after a fire in the “Kiss” nightclub in Santa Maria, Brazil. Pyrotechnics was also used inside the nightclub when the fire began.

The Northern Macedonia government is expected to declare a week of national mourning after this Sunday’s tragedy.
