The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul announced, this Thursday morning (2), that 13 people died as a result of the heavy rains that hit Rio Grande do Sul.
There are still 21 people missing in the state, as well as 12 injured. According to the agency, 134 cities were affected by the storm, impacting the lives of more than 44,600 citizens. The shelters in Rio Grande do Sul receive, in total, 3,079 people. There are also 5,257 homeless people

Public calamity
The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), declared a state of calamity after heavy rains in the state.
The measure aims to prioritize assistance to those affected by the rains by state agencies, in addition to facilitating the withdrawal of financial benefits by the affected population and making emergency hiring processes more flexible.
Decree 57,596 will be valid for 180 days and is based on the standard of the Brazilian Coding and Classification of Disasters (Cobrade), informing that the State has reached code 1.3.2.1.4 – which points to the occurrence of storms as the cause of the calamity.
Lula travels to Rio Grande do Sul
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) visits Rio Grande do Sul this Thursday, after strong storms hit the state.
Lula and Leite will meet at 9:45 am at the Santa Maria Air Base, around 296 kilometers from Porto Alegre. Along with them, there will be a delegation of ministers, formed by:
- Paulo Pimenta, from the Presidency's Communications Secretary (Secom),
- Waldez Goes, from Regional Integration,
- Rui Costa, from Casa Civil,
- Renan Filho, from Transport.
In addition to them, there will be the commanders of the Army, General Freire Gomes, and of the Air Force, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Damasceno.
