  • Caroline Barbosa de Souza, 17 years old
  • Rosimeire Maria Souza Santana, 59 years old

According to the Navy, the boat was transporting passengers irregularly when it sank. Among the irregularities, the vessel, called “Gostosão FF”, was registered in the “sloop” class, for exclusive use in sports and recreational activities and in no way could it be used for commercial purposes.

Furthermore, the maximum capacity, which is 10 passengers plus one crew member, would not have been respected. “Witnesses have already reported 25, and another 19 occupants, and only after completing the investigation to find out how many people were actually on board”, said the Navy Captain of Sea and War, Wellington Lemos Gagno, at a press conference.

Another suspicion is that a fight inside the boat also contributed to the vessel's imbalance and accident.

The Navy launched an Inquiry into Navigation Accidents and Facts (IAFN) to investigate the causes and circumstances of the accident.

The Civil Police are also investigating the case and reported that they are looking for camera footage and have already identified the driver of the vessel, who will be interviewed, as well as witnesses to the incident.
