Two men died and two others were arrested during a conflict with Military Police this Friday (22) in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. Following these deaths, the number of deaths during Operation Summer rose to 50.
The deaths occurred in different clashes, the first of which was in the early hours of the morning, in the Pantanal community, in the Saboó neighborhood, in Santos. The agents were there to check a report of drug trafficking, when they saw three people, two of them armed.
Upon noticing the approach, one of the suspects pointed a gun at the police officers who intervened.
One suspect was shot and taken to Santa Casa de Santos Hospital, but he did not survive his injuries, the other two fled.
With him, a 357 caliber revolver, radio communicators, R$939 and a backpack with 610 portions of drugs including ecstasy, hashish, skunk, cocaine and marijuana were seized.
One of the suspects who was at large was admitted to the Central Emergency Care Unit (UPA) and was located by the police. He confessed that he was trafficking drugs and during his escape he was shot in the leg.
The man was discharged from hospital and taken to the 5th Police Station of Santos where the case was registered as death resulting from police intervention, trafficking and association for drug trafficking, bodily injury resulting from police intervention and attempted murder.
Expert examinations were requested from the Criminalistics Institute and the Legal Medical Institute (IML).
The other case occurred in Morro do Tetéu on Friday afternoon. The agents were carrying out an operation against drug trafficking in the region when they caught the duo with weapons and drugs.
Upon noticing the presence of the police, the suspects aimed at the officers who reacted. The two men were hit and rescued by SAMU. They were taken to Santa Casa de Santos.
One of the suspects succumbed to his injuries and the other remains hospitalized under police escort.
With them, two 9 mm pistols, 917 portions of drugs, more than R$2,000 in cash, trafficking notes, radio communicators and cell phone accessories were seized.
The case was registered at the 5th Police Station of Santos and forensic examination was called.
Operation Summer
The 3rd phase of Operation Summer began after the death of Rota soldier Samuel Wesley Cosmo, aged 35, on February 2nd. The police officer was murdered while patrolling in a community on the outskirts of Santos.
In total, deaths on the coast already total 50 deaths, all as a result of police actions in Baixada Santista aimed at curbing crime in the region.
