The number of deaths on the coast rose to 51, in police actions in Baixada Santista aimed at curbing crime in the region.
The most recent death was that of a man who died after resisting arrest on Friday afternoon (23) in Vila Santa Rosa, in Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo.
According to the Public Security Secretariat, the agents were there due to a report of drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons. Officers located an armed suspect.
The police approached the man who resisted the arrest order and intervention from the agents was necessary. The man was hit and SAMU emergency services confirmed his death at the scene.
A gun, a charger, a submachine gun and a brick of marijuana were seized from him.
The case was registered as attempted murder, drug trafficking and death resulting from police intervention at the Guarujá Police Station.
Operation Summer
The 3rd phase of Operation Summer began after the death of Rota soldier Samuel Wesley Cosmo, aged 35, on February 2nd. The police officer was murdered while patrolling in a community on the outskirts of Santos.
In total, deaths on the coast already total 51 deaths, all as a result of police actions in Baixada Santista aimed at curbing crime in the region.
