The number of vacant positions on the last business day of March was 8.1 million, a new high in the series, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics announced Tuesday in its latest Job Vacancy and Rotation Summary (JOLTS) on Tuesday. This reading beat market expectations of 7.5 million.
“Hires changed little to 6.0 million. Total separations changed little to 5.3 million,” the publication read. “Within the separations, the rate of resignations remained unchanged at 2.4%, while the rate of layoffs and termination of activity decreased to a minimum of 1.0%.”
