The number of measles cases in 25 US states rises to 800

Measles cases have increased to a total of 800 patients so far in 25 US states, including Texas and New Mexico, disease control and prevention centers (CDC) reported on Friday (18) citing data until Thursday (17), above 712 cases reported on April 10.

The CDC stated that there were 10 reported outbreaks of the disease only by 2025, the cause of 94% of confirmed cases. By 2024, 64% of the total diagnoses were caused by outbreaks.

Texas recorded the largest number of cases with 597 patients, a number that increased by 36 since the last update on Tuesday (15).

Only 11% of people in registered cases are currently hospitalized, according to the agency.

A total of 249 cases are among children under 5, of which 47 are hospitalized.

Many pediatricians and US infectious diseases have previously told Reuters that the fight against the increase in measles across the country is being difficult for the lack of vigorous defense of vaccination by health authorities and declarations on unproven treatments confuse their parents.

Of the measles cases in 2025, 96% occurred in individuals who were not vaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown, according to the CDC.
