The number of people executed in 2023 in Iran is shocking – They exceeded 850

Iran's prisons turned into “slaughterhouses” in 2023, a year in which at least 853 executions took place, more than half of them for cases related to drug trafficking or use, reports Amnesty International. The number of executions in 2023 is the highest since 2015, up 48% from 2022 and up 172% from 2021, the human rights group says, calling on the international community to take action to “end the horrific wave of executions”.
