The number of women in the new French National Assembly has decreased

The percentage of women in the new National Assembly resulting from the parliamentary elections in France fell to 208 elected out of a total of 577 or 36% of the House, down compared to 2017 and 2022, according to an AFP analysis of the results released today published by the Ministry of the Interior. The percentage of women in the National Assembly reached a record in 2017, reaching 38.8% (224 MPs), before falling in 2022 to 37.3% (215). And this year it decreased further. The National Assembly now has a slightly lower female presence than the Senate, the indirectly elected upper house of the French parliament, which has 36.8% women (128 out of 348 senators). Among the major blocs in the new parliament, the union of the left or New People’s Front (NFP) and related groups (41.7%, 78 out of 187) has the most women and leads by a short head of the presidential camp (41.5% , 66 of 159).
