In London, an attacker who was disguised as a Uber taxi driver was stolen from a 30-year-old tourist from the United States Jacob Irwin-Cline, Bitcoin and XRP for $ 123,000.

The former software developer Irwin-Claine said that he arrived in London from Portland, Oregon to visit his parents. The incident occurred after relaxing at The Roxy nightclub in Soho. The man called a taxi to Uber through a mobile application. A driver drove up to him, who, as it seemed to the customer, corresponded to the profile from the application. However, the car turned out to be a dark sedan, not Toyota Prius, as indicated in the application.

The victim said that he took a cigarette from the driver, and shortly after that he stopped navigating in space. Irwin-Claine believes that the cigarette could be saturated with a potatoal substance by a scopolamine causing the loss of consciousness and self-control. While the man was in an unconscious state, the driver asked him access to his phone and password. Later, the man was forced to get out of the car, and the driver disappeared with his phone.

When the victim was able to get to the hostel with the help of a passerby, he hurried to the laptop and found that his access to cryptocurrency accounts was blocked. Having restored access, the investor saw that $ 73,000 and BTC were taken from his wallets by $ 50,000. The deceived man said that the stolen cryptocurrencies were his only savings. The department of virtual assets of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) is engaged in the case, but Irwin-Claine does not believe that he will be able to return the abducted funds.

The criminals are not the first to pretend to be Uber taxi drivers. Last year, Arizona Police detained a local resident on suspicion of stealing cryptocurrencies in the people he brought. The crypto -investors are often attacked abroad – at the beginning of the year the Thai police began to search for two Russians who stole crypto -actors from their compatriot.
