The Olympics in images, the shots of the athletes from Athens 1896 to Tokyo 2020

Some are historic feats of the world of sport. Others are images of athletic gestures in the place and at the moment of maximum expression of sport: the Olympics. 125 years (+1) of Games, exhibition open in Milan until November 22, tells the athletes at the Olympic Games in 68 photos. The exhibition is organized by the communication agency Theoria with the collaboration of RAI Teche and Sport Movies & TV and prints by Epson Italia.

68 photos in total to tell the story of the Games, choosing not the most famous, but those that best capture the human being with all his emotions in one shot, even before the athlete. Each edition of the Olympics is represented by two photographs, there are 12 only for the Tokyo 2020 edition, the last.

There is the future Tarzan, Johnny Weissmuller, swimming champion, there is the hero of Berlin ’36, Jesse Owens, there is Eric Liddell who inspired Moments of glory. These are the historical Olympics, but the characters that have entered the collective imagination are also recent: it is enough to mention Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world. There are the Italians Dorando Pietri, Vincenzo Maenza, Antonio Rossi, Jury Chechi, Stefano Baldini, winner of the Athens 2004 marathon, Livio Berruti and his 200 meters in Rome 1960. They are captured by the photographic lens in a particular moment of their Olympic adventure. A moment to perceive the emotion of the moment, of the undertaking that is taking place and that will remain etched forever in sporting history. They range from the first modern Olympics in Athens in 1896 with the photos of the historical archive of the Omega Fotocronache agency up to the Tokyo Games through the images of Giancarlo Colombo.
