The painter who created some of his most famous works in a psychiatric hospital

Although his work was not a great success while he was still alive, nor did he gain significant recognition, after his death his fame skyrocketed and today he is considered one of the most important painters of all times, while its influence on the later movements of expressionism and abstract art in general is considered catalytic.

The reason for Vincent Van Gogh, an artist with not so good mental health which led him to confinement in a psychiatric clinic. In 1889, van Gogh was admitted to the psychiatric center of St. Paul’s Monastery in the city of Saint-Remy-de-Provence in southern France.

Vincent van Gogh committed suicide in 1890 with two gunshot wounds to the stomach on July 27, a year after leaving a psychiatric clinic after symptoms of major depression and died two days later.
