We have become much more attentive, informed, in many ways even more responsible. With respect to the topic of health, and the importance we give you today, the pandemic has changed usmaking us Italians much more demanding citizens than before.
It is clear from the 1st Report on Italian Health conducted by Censis in collaboration with Janssen Italy and presented in Rome on the occasion of the first edition of The Italian Health Day.
A report which shows that the Italians have not only rediscovered the value of health – with 82.1% of citizens declaring that they adopt healthy behaviors – but they also intend to play an increasingly central role in post-Covid health.
Italians, more informed and confident
From the 1st Health Report it emerges that 66.9% of Italians inform themselves independently on the web or on social networks about aspects that affect their health, from symptoms to pathologies. 41.6% actively converse with doctors asking questions, expressing their point of view, counting in decisions. In general, most Italians consider health professionals and institutions to be reliable: 92.1% declare they have faith in doctors and 90.9% in scientific researchers; 73.2% have confidence in the health service of their region and 66.4% say they have confidence in drug companies, even with 89.5% of drugs.
And there is more: 90.1% believe that close cooperation between states and pharmaceutical companies in scientific research and experimentation is essential and for 93.7% public spending on health and health research is an investment and not a fee.
In general, a significant element is that for 93.9% of Italians, doctors must be at the center of the healthcare of the future. 8 out of 10 believe their action is a guarantee that no criteria other than health protection, from algorithms to financial constraints, will prevail in healthcare processes. In order to be at the center of healthcare and focused on the relationship with the patient, for 94.7% the doctor should however be freed from excessive bureaucratic-administrative burdens and supported in the digital leap.
High then the expectations from innovation in healthcare: 94% expect one greater effectiveness of treatment and higher quality of life in case of chronic illness92% scovered with innovative techniques and methodologies to quickly respond to the challenge of new viruses, bacteria etc.91.1% la reduced risk of getting sickthanks to vaccines and drugs for prevention and tests for early diagnosis.
The sense of responsibility grows
An undisputed “merit” attributable to the Covid-19 pandemic is also having increased sense of collective and above all personal responsibility. In addition to the intention to follow a healthy lifestyle on a daily basis, including good nutrition, physical activity and caution in the consumption of smoking and alcohol, 66.5% of citizens declare that they undergo visits and checks even in the absence of symptoms and full-blown pathologies.
Demanding and eager for a more personalized healthcare
Animated by a more mature subjectivity, the post Covid sees us today full of expectations towards the healthcare of the future. For 94.3% of Italians, greater personalization of therapies is very or quite important. For 92.9% it is important that the therapeutic and assistance paths are modulated on the personal needs of the patient, from home, to the territory and to hospitals.
In general, for the Italians the healthcare ecosystem has held the blow, it is concretely rethinking to put people at the center, modulating services, performances and, even, therapies on the singularity of each one. Better healthcare, then, for 95.7% of Italians requires simplifying access to care and for 96.6% to always have precise interlocutors in the area (structures, operators, etc.).
The better health agenda should also include, for 50.9% of the most medical citizens, for 46.7%, technologies and diagnostic equipment for the most modern treatments, for 45.3% services announced in the area (Health Homes, Territorial Operational Centers, etc.), for 39.6% more beds in hospitals and for 34% digital home assistance.
Ultimately, it is significant that for 61% of Italians the health service
will improve. Also thanks to the lessons of the pandemic.
