The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced yesterday Wednesday that 676 patients with COVID-19 died in the previous 24 hours and 17,756 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed.
With 596,122 dead after the new coronavirus pandemic broke out in its territory, Latin America, the largest country with a population of 212 million, records the second heaviest death toll in the world in absolute terms, behind the United States (692,975 dead).
The number of reported cases is now 21,399,546; Brazil ranks third in the world in terms of the number of infections, after the USA and India, according to official data.
Mexico: 596 deaths and almost 9,800 cases in 24 hours
The Mexican Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that another 596 patients with COVID-19 had died in the past 24 hours and 9,796 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed.
With 276,972 deaths since it broke out in its territory until yesterday, the country of 126 million inhabitants records the 4th heaviest death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic on the planet in absolute terms. The recorded cases reached 3,655,395, according to the data of the ministry, but its executives acknowledge that they are very underestimated in relation to reality.
Iran: More than 120,000 dead, the number of cases has reached 5.57 million.

The number of patients being treated in hospitals with COVID-19 – excluding those in intensive care units (ICU) – fell to 3,317 yesterday, from 3,418 a day earlier.
In the ICU, 23 patients were admitted, compared to 19 the previous year. The total number of patients admitted to the ICU was reduced to 450, from 459 one day earlier.
Malaysia: Over 12,400 cases and 208 deaths in 24 hours
The Malaysian Ministry of Health announced today that in the 24 hours until midnight yesterday, Wednesday, 208 patients with COVID-19 succumbed and 12,434 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were diagnosed.
