The people of Lipsi are changing and dynamically entering the map of marine tourism

Leipsi are changing gears and are dynamically entering the maritime tourism map, claiming a significant share of the boats approaching the Mediterranean and Greece in particular. The reason is the new port that was inaugurated today by the Municipality of Leipso in a special event in the presence of the regional governor of South Aegean, Giorgos Chatzimarkos.

As the mayor of Leipsos, Fotis Maggos, pointed out to APE-MBE, the new port now has all the infrastructure to accommodate at least 80 pleasure boats, with all that this entails for the island’s economy. At this point he emphasized that the tourist season for the island does not exceed two months, while it is hoped that the new project will be another incentive for young people to stay on the uninhabited island.

For his part, the regional governor of the South Aegean noted that the islands of the barren line are becoming islands of the first line and are not in the news only for problems, but now they are heard about emblematic projects. Tilos, Astypalaia, Halki, Leipsi, are some of the islands noted by Mr. Hatzimarkos and said: The DNA of Hellenism shines with emblematic works. We will implement whatever project the islands of the region request, he noted.

Focusing on the current tourist season, Mr. Hatzimarkos reported to APE-MPE that the islands of the Region are running with +9% more than the tourist traffic of 2019. The Lipsi islands are currently 100% occupied, according to Mr. Mangos. Regarding the new port project, it was emphasized that this was announced 20 years ago and was implemented today, while it was delivered 4 months earlier than originally announced, as emphasized.
