The phone call between Biden and Xi Jinping lasted more than two hours

US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping had a phone call that lasted more than two hours today, during which they discussed the growing tension between the two countries and their trade differences.

“The conversation between President Biden and President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China concluded at 10:50 a.m.” says the White House announcement. The phone call had started 2 hours and 17 minutes earlier, at 08:33 am. (Washington time), according to the same source.

Today was the fifth communication between the two leaders since Joe Biden took over the US presidency, but the tension between Beijing and Washington is becoming harder to hide. The latest point of friction is the possible trip of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.

China considers the island to be one of its historical provinces, which it has yet to reunite with the rest of the country. US officials fear that Beijing is considering a military invasion of Taiwan to impose its control.
