The ‘Plastic Free Greece’ campaign of Lidl Hellas, in collaboration with the Athanasios K. Laskaridis Public Benefit Foundation continues this year as well

The intention of all is to reduce the reckless use of plastic, to invest in the dynamics of the circular economy and to protect our coasts and seas.

Guided by the fact that shaping a sustainable future for the next generations is a common task and responsibility, in June 2020 in Santorini the project “Plastic Free Santorini” was launched, as a joint initiative of the Ministry of Tourism and Lidl Hellas. In September 2020, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the Athanasios K. Laskaridis Public Benefit Foundation was incorporated under the national campaign “Greece without disposable plastics”.

In the summer of 2021, representatives of Lidl Hellas, together with associates and volunteers of the Foundation, joined forces in the fight for the protection of the marine environment and the Greek coasts and visited Chania, the first leg of Halkidiki, Santorini, Rhodes, Kos and Corfu. A total of 248 kg of waste was collected in coastal clean-ups and 997.5 kg in underwater clean-ups.

The campaign

This year the journey continues, with the goal of 6 additional destinations in our country to become Plastic Free. The team of the program, consisting of executives and volunteers of the two collaborating organizations, will visit Heraklion, the second leg of Halkidiki, Santorini, Syros, Lake Kerkini and Lemnos, offering breaths of life to the ecosystem of these areas, but also viable solutions that pave the way for sustainable development.

In each destination there will be two coastal and two underwater cleanups, meetings with representatives of the local government, as well as educational activities.

πιν

Marine pollution is a global phenomenon, which knows no borders and affects all our regions and islands, regardless. The “Plastic Free Greece” campaign is a global message of sustainable development for our country and aims to raise awareness about marine pollution from plastic waste, through coastal and underwater cleaning actions.

These actions are part of REset Plastic, the international strategy of the Schwarz group for plastics, in which Lidl Hellas also participates, and specifically in the fields of action REmove, REduce and REcycle.
