If we asked the hundreds of people who flock to the stands in front of the Palazzo del Cinema every year why they face the sun and the rain just to be there, they would probably answer us in a very simple way: to see the stars and, above all, , who accompanies them. In its 78 years of life, the Venice Film Festival of stellar loves has seen many pass by: from the longest-lived ones, like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, to the more turbulent ones like Johnny Depp and Amber Heard; from the most paparazzi, like George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin, to those with whom we have platonically dreamed, like Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper and Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. How many times has the Lido made us think of the fairytale? And, above all, how many times has our heart beaten looking at the images of that red carpet so sparkling and so full of tenderness?
The third episode of Venezia My Love, the new podcast of Vanity Fair dedicated to the Venice International Film Festival which, a year and a half after the outbreak of the pandemic, returns to the Lido with an edition, the seventy-eighth, scheduled from 1st to 11th September, speaks of this: of the most beautiful loves that have walked on the red carpet. Some destined to make history and to capitulate – like Clooney and Canalis and Golino and Scamarcio – and others to take flight – such as Cruz and Bardem who, before arriving together at the Mostra in 2017, had met, also in Venice, 25 years earlier for the presentation of the film Ham ham of Bigas Luna.
Together with Stefania Saltalamacchia, journalist of Vanity Fair and black belt of love story, we retrace the kisses, hugs and sparks that made the exhibition more talked about in its long history: from the tenderness of Franco Nero and Vanessa Redgrave on the occasion of the awarding of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to the latter to the cunning of Monica Bellucci e Vincent Cassel who, in 2019, did everything they could not to be photographed nearby so as not to tickle the imagination of the press (the couple, for the record, separated in 2013). Will the exhibition be able to make its audience dream for a long time, tickling their romanticism? And, above all, edition number 78 will be able to show off Ben Affleck, who will be in attendance for the Ridley Scott film The Last Duel, along with Jennifer Lopez?
These and many other questions are answered by “Venezia Mon Amour”. Have a good listening!
