Although it started its activity in Greece in 2018, nevertheless the Portuguese EDPR has ambitious plans for the installation of over 600MW of RES projects by 2025. It is noted that the total pipeline of the projects under development is about 1.1GW.

The goal of EDPR, as stated by the General Manager of Greece, Damian Rodriguez, is the annual growth of 100/150 MW, while according to company estimates, a total investment of over 500 million euros will be required.

The growth of the company’s portfolio will be mainly organic, although as stressed it remains open to possible opportunities that will arise for acquisitions.

It is recalled that in October EDPR entered into a strategic agreement with the ELLAKTOR group for the joint development and implementation of a specific portfolio of new Ellaktor wind farms, with a capacity of 900 MW, in various parts of Greece, with its estimated value in its full implementation, to exceed 1 billion euros.

EDPR has also signed in March 2021 a cooperation agreement with TERNA Energy, through Ocean Winds (50/50 consortium of EDPR and ENGIE) for the offshore wind farms sector.

In fact, the company is waiting for the new institutional framework for offshore wind farms in order to proceed with the implementation of investments in the specific technology.

Regarding the parent group, the EDPRS strategic plan envisages the development of projects with a total capacity of 20GW worldwide and includes 54% terrestrial wind, 41% photovoltaic, 3% offshore wind and 2% other technologies .

According to the company representatives, Greece is a strategic market for EDPR as it has one of the most ambitious plans for energy transition and development of new RES and displays attractive and untapped green energy sources.

At the same time, in the period 2018-2020, a successful RES policy was implemented through competitive processes that enhanced visibility for investors, while attractive portfolios under development were accepted by the market. Finally, it shows strong potential in offshore wind farms.
