The powerful mobster who threatens to reveal the secrets of Drangeta

An important development in the fight against one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the world could be the fact that a high-ranking of the Calabrian Drangheta mafia began collaborating with researchers.

A senior court source has confirmed to Agence France-Presse that Nicolino Grande Aracri, who is serving a life sentence for murder in a Milan prison in the north, is working with prosecutors and police.

The 62-year-old mobster, known for his derogatory “rubber hand”, was one of Drangheta’s bosses in his hometown of Calabria., in the south, but also had a large criminal activity in Emilia Romagna, in northern Italy.

Italy has long relied on the “repentant” to infiltrate its organizations mafia, as broadcast by the French News Agency. But with Drangeta, it has always been difficult to break the code of silence, omerta, and family ties that unite its members.

Nicolino Grande Aracri’s decision to speak could change the situation, but no details have been leaked to researchers so far, whether they consider him a credible source or not.

In return for their cooperation, imprisoned mobsters may receive reduced sentences or other privileges.. However, in some cases, these convicts provided investigators with irrelevant or false information.

Drangeta has long surpassed Cosa Nostra of Sicily as its largest mafia organization Italy and is considered one of the most powerful crime syndicates in the world for controlling most of the cocaine entering Europe.
