The “precautionary” hospitalization and absolute rest. But how is the queen?

From Buckingham Palace they continue to reiterate that Her Majesty is fine and that she just needs rest, like all people her age. But in these hours, another episode has returned to feed the questions about her state of health: the queen Elizabeth II she did not attend the Sunday service at the All Saint Chapel in Windsor, an appointment that the methodical and very religious sovereign rarely missed in her long life.

To order the Queen not to go out even to go to church, it would have been the court doctor, who imposed on her a few days of rest after being hospitalized for one night for tests last week. From Palazzo, however, they assure that it was a decision shared with the sovereign herself, who preferred to be absent from the religious function rather than arriving too tired. al COP26 – the 2021 United Nations Conference on Climate Change, scheduled in Glasgow, Scotland, from 31 October to 12 November – where it is expected on Monday 1 November.

Moreover, the numbers say that the Queen, since the death of Prince Philip, has been extremely busy: 120 official engagements in 194 days. Many for anyone, too many for a 95-year-old woman, even for one with Elizabeth’s fiber. Thus, the very active sovereign, who by now does not carve out a moment of rest even at lunch and dinner because, the tabloids write, “She no longer wants to eat alone”, now she has realized that she needs to slow down a bit. “An important gesture on the part of the Queen,” comment the British Royal Watchers, who agree that Her Majesty is “reasonably exhausted “.

After the Megxit and the vitriolic interviews with Oprah Winfrey, the scandals involving her son Andrew, and above all the death of the beloved Philip, a lifelong companion, everyone expected Elizabeth to retire or at least reduce her commitments, in especially favor of his nephew William. On the other hand, a little so as not to shut herself up at home to mull over mourning too much, and a lot to show that the monarchy, despite everything, is still alive and solid, not only has she got back to work immediately after her husband’s funeral, but has also increased its activities. “She is the Queen and it is she that the subjects want to see”, he told al Sunday Times la Royal watcher Penny Junor, «And she always does a great job. She is fantastic, especially if we think that most of the people her age have been retired for at least 20 years “.

However, we must take note that there are years and every now and then they knock to be heard: the hospitalization for examinations (no one knows what) last week, the cane to help you walk in Cardiff, the ban on drinking the beloved Evening martini and the absolute rest ordered by the doctor who led her to give up first (“reluctantly”) a two-day trip in Northern Ireland, October 20 and 21, and now even Sunday mass, are all elements that give to think, when not to worry.

However, even if the years are knocking, Elisabetta certainly has no intention of opening. She made it known herself, elegantly refusing the award Oldie of The Year, which every year is given to illustrious elders: «Sua Majesty believes that one is old when one feels old, as such he does not believe he meets the relevant criteria to be able to accept, and hopes that you can find a more worthy recipient “. Long live the Queen, we all hope so.
