Colombian President Gustavo Petro became the owner of the first cryptocurrency. He received 100,000 satoshi (0.001 BTC or $39.4). This was announced by former director of strategic development at Blockstream and CEO of JAN3 Samson Moe.

According to the Colombian President, digital assets have already “paved the way” in the world and will continue to develop. He called the crypto industry “promising for human well-being.”

The initiative could be the first step towards the legalization of Bitcoin by a second Latin American state. In the fall of 2021, a law recognizing the first cryptocurrency as a legal means of payment came into force in El Salvador.
