On the occasion of the new records set in the cost of electricity, the president of EVEA, Giannis Bratakos, made the following statement:
“The wave of price increases in energy, raw materials and foodstuffs is now getting out of control. Inflation is gnawing on people’s incomes, slowing growth and creating an extremely unfavorable environment for European economies and businesses.
The leadership of the European Union must take bold decisions immediately. In the first phase, and as long as the uncertainty lasts, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the budgetary margins of the member countries will have to be expanded, so that they can provide subsidies and support citizens and businesses in the face of the price explosion.
At the same time, it must plan for the next day, through effective alternative policies for cheaper energy, for all citizens and all EU countries. “This crisis is an opportunity for Europe to finally gain geopolitical displacement and power, commensurate with its economic power.”
