A small de-escalation is recorded for today in the wholesale prices of electricity, which, however, remain at quite high levels. Specifically, for today, the price in the Greek market is 250.22 euros / MWh, while the highest price in Europe is recorded in Switzerland (276.53 euros / MWh) and France (275.16 euros / MWh). In neighboring markets, prices range from 217.25 euros / MWh (Bulgaria) to 256.4 euros / MWh (Italy).
It is worth noting that gas prices remain high at 92.5 euros / MWh, while carbon dioxide emissions continue to rise to 73.1 euros / tonne.
The price rally due to the energy crisis, however, does not only affect electricity prices for consumers and households. Even greater are the increases recorded in the retail prices of natural gas. The official price list of a large gas supplier is typical, according to which the prices have more than quadrupled compared to last year. Indicatively, the price of natural gas for autonomous heating and hot water from 0.017 euros / KWh last November, this year has jumped to 0.098 euros / KWh (increase 449%).
Respectively, the tariff for central heating from 0.019 euros / KWh last November, has increased this year to 0.10 euros / KWh (increase 426%). Finally, the tariff for kitchen and hot water use from 0.021 euros / KWh last year, this year is set at 0.101 euros / KWh (380% increase).
It is obvious that with these increases, the horizontal cost reduction of 15% announced by DEPA is a “drop”, which can not cover the significant burden that will be borne by businesses and households in the near future.
In fact, the derailment of gas prices is expected to be seen this month in the accounts of consumers, as we have already entered the heating season and the weather conditions have begun to deteriorate. In any case, given the significant increase in costs for households, concerns are expressed about a possible wave of outstanding debts.
