The profile of men who send photos with their genitals to women on social media

The phenomenon is frequent men to send to social media unwanted photos from their genitals. It’s not a recent trend but one would expect it at a time when #MeToo mediates, these phenomena disappear. But such a thing does not seem to be happening.

“Very few women are affected by such a message, yet it is one aggressive behaviorReports the German news agency dpa Sandra Schwark, psychologist and criminologist specializing in sexual violence.

According to the expert, many women report that they felt harassment, apostrophe, shame. Even stress – especially those who have experienced sexual violence again in the past. An image of a stranger’s penis can bring old wounds to the surface again.

“In many cases it is not even an attempt to have sex but for sexual harassment, as often happens on the street and at the same time a show of strength “says Svark. Research has shown that this is mainly an attempt to exercise power and enforcement.

The profile of those who send photos of their penis

According to a research on the phenomenon of male genital photographs (dickpics) cited by a DW publication, the Profile of senders is of particular interest. They themselves are not aware that this is an act of aggression, nor do they consider themselves to be sexists – yet in the end their act carries these elements. Τ82% of men who participated in the scientific research of Flora Oswald (2019) consider that sending this type of photos sexually arouses the recipient. 50% of men who responded said that so they feel attractive. 51% hope to receive a similar response with “sexy” photos, while 53% want to provoke. Finally, 47% of the participants state that in this way they want to show their sexual interest in a person.

According to psychoanalyst Jonas Kneer, “as long as similar behaviors do not provoke negative reactions, they are very likely to be repeated.” He considers that such practices should be prosecuted and that it is important to make clear to the sender the possibility of filing a lawsuit against him. The responsibility always lies with the perpetrators and not the victims. Kneer is leading the “I can change” project at the University of Hanover Medical School, which involves people who can not control their sexual impulses. The German expert, however, states that phenomena and behaviors like these can be predicted and avoided.
