The Christian Union (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) signed their programmatic agreement earlier today, formally paving the way for the formation of the new federal government coalition under the leader of the Christian Democratic Party (CDU). “The agreement we sign today testifies to this willing will for serious, focused and aware of cooperation problems,” said Mr Mertz, who is expected to be elected Chancellor tomorrow by the Bundestag. “We know that it is our historical obligation to lead this coalition to success.
