Representatives of the National Automobile Union (NAS) officially proposed to the Russian government to significantly deepen the system of studying traffic rules in schools. The fact is that at the moment, schoolchildren are being taught in the format of electives, as well as for several hours according to the OBZH lesson program, but, according to activists, this is not enough. They proposed to bring the study of traffic rules into a separate subject, in which students will take exams in the form of the Unified State Exam, like other subjects at the moment. This, according to members of the NAS, should improve road safety and reduce deaths in road accidents.
True, at the moment, the proposal to separate the study of traffic rules into a separate discipline was rejected – the Ministry of Education said that the existing system according to which schoolchildren are taught traffic rules is sufficient. Moreover, representatives of the Moscow Region added that the creation of a new subject, in which students will also need to pass a very difficult exam within the USE, will cause a negative reaction from both the students themselves and their parents. This, apparently, was the main reason for the refusal of the proposal by the US – the official response did not indicate any other reasons.
The NAS initiative was actively supported by Mikhail Chernikov, the head of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of Russia. He stated that the idea of ​​in-depth study of traffic rules is quite interesting and useful.
“A minor who has undergone such a serious step-by-step training will not only be able to easily pass an exam at a driving school and get a driver’s license, but will probably become a fairly literate, trained road user,” added Mikhail Chernikov, head of the traffic police of Russia.
Moreover, he proposed to return driving lessons to the school curriculum in order to issue driving licenses along with the school certificate in the future.
