A huge basement pyramid hidden in a hill was spotted at Indonesiawhich may be the oldest in the world, since it is estimated to be even older than the pyramids of Egypt.
The site named Gunung Padang is a hill with ancient stone structures located on the island of West Java and is considered sacred by the locals.
Archaeologists have only just begun to investigate the site and are already excited, calling it an “amazing example of human ingenuity”. The pyramid appears to have been built on top of a dormant volcano before the advent of civilization as we know it, even before the advent of agricultural communities.
The name Gunung Padang means “Mountain of Enlightenment” and the first data show that the interior of the hill hides large chambers with unknown contents. Scientists believe that an ancient civilization shaped the natural hill formed by the lava into a pyramid thousands of years ago.
The first radio dating measurements indicate that construction began during the last ice age, at least 16,000 years ago and up to 27,000 years ago. Here we should note that Gobekli Tepe in Turkey, which is considered the oldest megalithic structure in the world, is 11,000 years old.

The analyses show that Gunung Padang was built in stages, in an elaborate manner and its deepest point is 30 meters. Construction is estimated to have started between 25,000 and 14,000 BC. and then abandoned for thousands of years. He then started again in 7900 to 6100 BC, expanding the core with various stone columns, while supplementary work continued in 5500 BC. The last architects of the pyramid came in 2,000 BC, adding the final pieces to the top of the hill and this is what we see today, huge stone columns.

Scientists, using seismic waves, identified hidden chambers inside the pyramid, some of which are 15 meters long and 10 meters high. Archaeologists want to drill into the outside of the mound and insert a camera to record these chambers.

Further excavations will give us information about who these prehistoric people were and why they built this monument.
