There Queen Elizabeth IIin Scotland since June 27, it has done another surprise appearance: The Queen participated all smiling at the “Loyalty Parade“, One parade of the armed forces in front of the palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the Windsors in Edinburgh, which paid tribute to the sovereign and her role as head of the British armed forces (see gallery under). The event took place on the 200th anniversary of the visit of King George IV to Scotland in 1822, in which the keys to the castle were first presented to a British ruler. The ceremony began with the presentation to the Queen of senior representatives of the army, navy and air force by Lord Lyon, the ‘king of arms’, the officer in charge of the Scottish heraldry. Then General Alastair Bruce of Crionaich, governor of Edinburgh Castle, he offered the keys to the castle to the sovereign. Elizabeth immediately returned them “with gratitude for the symbolic act of loyalty of the armed forces”. The Queen “was in great shape”General Alastair then commented.
This is Elizabeth’s second public appearance in two days, on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Scotland. On June 27, The Queen surprised the subjects by appearing at the “Ceremony of the Keys”always ahead of Holyroodhouse, together with the younger son Edward, Duke of Wessex, and his wife, Sophie Rhys-Jones. And even there, in spite of the rain, she always appeared smiling.
Despite the mobility problems, despite the walking stick now accompanying all of her public appearances, the sovereign was determined to go to Scotland for her annual royal duty week. And she’s doing everything- compatibly with the ailments of age – so as not to deny his subjects his presence. Elizabeth will remain in Scotland until July 1st. There are other commitments planned, but the participation of the sovereign will be confirmed only at the last minute. The royal watchers for some time now have become accustomed to the queen’s “unscheduled” ones. And they know well that it is not a question of whims, but efforts that her Majesty makes in the name of that sense of duty that she has always distinguished her.
