The queue to launch a validator on the Ethereum network exceeded 12 days

As of April 16, 2024, the queue to launch a validator on the Ethereum network reached 12 days and 4 hours, according to Ethereum Validator Queue. There are 21,865 nodes waiting to connect, a new maximum from September 2023.

As can be seen in the graph below, the queue of validators to connect to the Ethereum network began to grow from the end of March 2024.

One possible reason could be the launch of the mainnet of the EigenLayer project. The protocol allows you to receive rewards for restaking Ethereum (ETH).

Note that the number of active validators has increased significantly since the end of January 2024. At the time of writing, there are 984,474 nodes active on the network, according to Glassnode:

Similar things have happened before. For example, an increase in the waiting time for node connections was observed in February 2024.
