The International Red Cross as well as its partners are setting up a campaign hospital in southern Gaza today, Tuesday 14/5. The aim is to meet what has been described as a “tremendous” demand for health services following the start of Israel's military operation in Rafah last week. Some clinics have suspended operations and patients and doctors have left a major hospital as Israel has stepped up its shelling of southern Gaza, home to hundreds of thousands of uprooted people. “People in Gaza are struggling to access the health care they urgently need, due in part to the huge demand for health services and the reduced number of functioning health facilities,” the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) noted. “Doctors and nurses are working on a 24-hour basis and have exceeded the limits of their capabilities,” he added.
