The report of ADAE for 2020 to the President of the Parliament

The Report of the activities of the Authority for the Protection of the Confidentiality of Communications (ADAE), for 2020, was submitted today to the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Konstantinos Tasoulas, by the President of the Authority, Christos Rammos. According to a relevant announcement of the Parliament, the meeting was also attended by the Vice President of ADAE, Michalis Sakkas.

According to the Report, the current era is characterized by rapid technological developments in both electronic communications and postal services, constantly posing new challenges in the effective protection of communications confidentiality. For this reason, ADAE, in addition to its auditing activities, develops programs to inform users and subscribers, recognizing the fact that cybersecurity and the protection of the confidentiality of communications do not only concern specific or specific bodies and organizations, but all those who use the internet and interconnected devices for communication and interaction.

In 2020, the ADAE, which has been entrusted with the important task of protecting the fundamental individual right to the secrecy of communications, in 2020 received a total of 80 complaints, of which 72 concerned electronic communications services and 8 concerned postal services.

According to the Authority, the consolidation of a sense of trust in the users, in relation to both the security of their conversations and the exchange of written texts through electronic or other communication networks, is an essential element for the functioning of democracy in the country.

The President of the Parliament, receiving the Report, informed the President of the Authority that it will be forwarded to the members of the Special Standing Committee on Institutions and Transparency of the Parliament in order to be informed and to draw up a relevant conclusion.
