The report on the partygate is aggravating for Johnson

Although only 12 pages of Sue Gray’s long-awaited inquiry into government parties have been published, the conclusion for the government is already clear: Serious and unjustified mistakes. The question of course is whether they will be forgiven…

So far, of course, and a few hours after the publication of the poll, the Conservative Party seems numb, without a clear direction, while it is determined against the opposition, which is persistently demanding Johnson’s resignation. At the same time, the unhappiness of the people is clear, as almost 70%, according to YouGov, state that they have lost confidence in the British Prime Minister.

The result of the research

The Sue Gray report was made after several weeks of research to shed light on the downtown party and other government offices amid a pandemic. He examined a total of 16 parties, 3 of which were attended by Boris Johnson, while another of them took place at the prime minister’s residence, but the prime minister has not confirmed his presence.

The “sharp” findings of the survey speak of “leadership failure” in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Cabinet, “a serious failure to meet the high demands, which are required both when working in the heart of government and as long as the British people expect.” , “excessive alcohol consumption, which is not allowed in any work environment”, but also “behaviors, which are difficult to justify”. The investigation, however, was quite concise, condemning the overall situation within government offices, but without giving specific names and assigning specific responsibilities.

The police investigation and its involvement in the delay

The reason why So Gray’s investigation was published so incompletely is the request of the Metropolitan Police not to publish information that it is now examining. It is characteristic that out of the 16 parties that Sue Gray has already investigated, 12 are “revisited” by the police. In fact, she has 300 photos and 500 pages of information around them and we still do not know when they will come to light.

In addition, this has “given” time to Boris Johnson. Some of his MPs may be outraged, including former Prime Minister Theresa May, but many are confused and do not know exactly how to react. Once again, Johnson apologized in the British Parliament, vaguely for mistakes and omissions, vowed to “fix everything”, but at the same time asked everyone to wait for the conclusion of the police investigation. Something about which the leader of the official opposition Sir Kir Starmer accused him of “using something so shameful as a shield of protection”, while he once again demanded his resignation.
