The surpluses of the Renewable Energy Sources (ELAPE) account for 2022 exceed more than 2 billion euros, from which the subsidies of the electricity bills of households and businesses are mainly financed.
According to the bulletin for the evolution of ELAPE published by the Manager of Renewable Sources and Guarantees of Origin (DAPEEP), 2021 closed with a surplus of 322 million euros (252 million if the margin of safety provided by law is deducted). in 2022 a surplus of 2.5 billion euros is projected. From the projected surplus of 2022, 780 million euros have already been deducted for consumer subsidies in the first five months of the year (so the amount is 1.7 billion), subsidies which, if the crisis continues, will be maintained in the next months.
The forecasts for 2022 show great optimism for the future of ELAPE, which is a guarantee for the investment security that RES needs, points out in his statements the president and CEO of DAPEEP Giannis Giarentis and adds:
“ELAPE surpluses give the right to significant aid of the Energy Transition Fund, after the important initiatives taken by the government, in order to address the problem of energy accuracy experienced by consumers.
The bulletins show the amounts disbursed by ELAPE to the TEM as determined by the ministerial decisions. The cumulative result is still in surplus, which confirms the steady course of the Account. More specifically, even after the disbursement of 780 million to TEM by the end of May, there remains a significant cumulative surplus of over 500 million.
The continued positive course of ELAPE comes mainly from the significant revenues that result from the participation of RES in the markets and that in other energy producers appear as profitability. The disposal of ELAPE surpluses to TEM, ie to consumers, confirms the contribution of RES to the reduction of energy costs. In addition to the reduction of the unit price per kilowatt hour, RES also support the consumer through TEM “.
