The result of the parliamentary elections in Georgia moves the country away from joining the European Union and NATO

The ruling Georgian Dream party of Bidzina Ivanishvili, gathers 54% in the parliamentary elections held yesterday Saturday in Georgia, after the votes were counted in more than 99% of the polling stations, the electoral commission announced today. The result is a blow for the pro-European coalition. “We do not recognize the false results of the stolen election,” Tina Bokutsava, head of the pro-European United National Movement, one of the four opposition parties that formed an alliance ahead of the election, said overnight. Denouncing “the usurpation of power and a constitutional coup”, Nika Gvaramia, head of the Akhali party, assured that the opposition has “deciphered the election fraud plans”.
